This article really freaks me out. I realize it's only satire, but it is not that hard to imagine the future media putting such a spin on reading. And the way education is going in our society I wouldn't be surprised at all if reading and writing skills are seen as peripheral literacy skills, rarely needed in the ever increasing technological age that we have entered. Comparing reading to classical music, something enjoyed by the elderly or educated, when once upon a time it was a mainstream pursuit, is what made this prediction seem actually feasible. And to imagine that in 2025 I will be elderly and educated makes this hypothetical prediction very unnerving and scary to me.
